While not incredible, 'Incredibles 2' is still pretty good

And when a film stands out in a catalog as impressive as Pixar's, that means something. People have been craving a sequel for over a decade, and now it's finally here with the promise that the wait was worth it."Incredibles 2" was a very fun film experience that I enjoyed a great deal, however, when the credits started rolling, I immediately felt that something was seriously amiss with the movie. I couldn't quite place my finger on the exact issue I had though.I could tell the villain was quite a bit less impressive than Syndrome was in the original, but there was something else. It didn't fully strike until I started formulating this review in my head.The movie begins with an incident that forces the heroes to go into hiding. But, in their hiding, they are approached with an offer that will allow them to go out and be superheroes again. One of the heroes goes for this plan and starts being a hero again despite the activity being deemed illegal.After a few acts of heroism, a villain reveals him/herself as he/she had been working in the shadows the entire time. Now the heroes must learn to all work together as a family or fall victim to the villain's dastardly plan.Now I have a key question for you: Which film was I describing, the original "Incredibles" or the sequel? As you may have guessed by now, the correct answer is both.The key problem with "Incredibles 2" is that, with only a couple of details changed, it is the same movie as the original. At its best, it is just as good as the original. At its worst, it's a pale imitation.I don't want to bring this movie down too much, I did enjoy it overall, a great deal in fact. There is one sequence in particular that I appreciate. A sequence where Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) must take over the full-time parent role for a while. In most movies, this would the opportunity to have the father act like a buffoon, but here he is shown as tired and struggling but also making due and figuring things out and doing the best he can.I just wish more of the movie was like this. Doing things that we haven't seen before rather than literally rehashing the first movie again.The best advice I can give to anyone entering this movie is that you will be thoroughly entertained, just temper those expectations a bit. You should enter the theater just expecting a fun movie. This is more the movie to expect if the studio rushes it out in two years.If you go in hoping for a movie that makes a 14-year wait worthwhile, you'll be disappointed.Setlock, Robert
