34 Panthers move on to new chapters

SANDUSKY — As the tassels shifted and applause echoed through the gym at St. Mary Central Catholic High School, 34 graduates stepped into the next chapter of their lives, each carrying more than just their diplomas. Seniors from St. Mary Central Catholic High School — the class of 2026 — attended their commencement ceremony on Sunday at the Kinzel Center. The 34 graduates were each surrounded by family, friends and proud SMCC faculty. During the commencement ceremony, several faculty members recognized the graduating class's accomplishments at SMCC. President and head of Sandusky Central Catholic School, Ryan Wikel, congratulated the graduates on their hard work and wished them good luck as they embarked on new and exciting journeys. "You demonstrated leadership, character and a deep commitment to the values of our Catholic faith," Wikel said. "You have helped strengthen the culture of integrity and excellence at SMCC." Both the class salutatorian, Grant Swain, and valedictorian, Pavan Gorty, delivered speeches to their fellow graduates and urged younger students to take full advantage of what the school has to offer. "I urge younger students to participate in that community and take advantage of everything that the school offers and to always remember your faith," Swain said. SMCC Class of 2026 • 34 graduates — 68% going to college — 12% enlisting in the military — 24% entering the workforce — 2% attending a trade school Note: Students enrolled in ROTC are listed as both military and college. • A total of $5.6 million was offered in scholarships, with $1 million accepted and $100,000 in local scholarships.
