DISTRICT TRACK: Bellevue girls win district track title

OAK HARBOR — Behind a record-setting day from senior Amerie Wagner, the Bellevue girls track and field team captured the Division III district championship at Oak Harbor High School on Saturday. The Lady Red finished with 112 points while Lexington was second with 100 points. Oak Harbor (80) was third, Perkins (49) was seventh, Vermilion (31) was ninth and Clyde (24) was 10th. The top four finishers in each event advanced to the regional at Piqua on May 28 and 30. Wagner won the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.64 seconds. She set a personal-best and school record in the 400, crossing in second in 56.83. She helped the 4x200 team advance by crossing in fourth in a time of 1:45.02. She was joined by Payton Taylor, Natalie Littlejohn and Hallie McCarthy. The Lady Red had a pair of qualifiers in the 100 hurdles as McCarthy was third (16.89) and Bella Slater took fourth (16.92). McCarthy was runner-up in the 300 hurdles (47.16) while Clyde's Casey Fisher also advanced after taking fourth (48.98). Vermilion's Brooke Whisenant was third in the 200 (26.42) and third in the 400 (57.33). She was also third in the 100 (12.60), one spot ahead of Bellevue's Ava Jakubcin-Theis (12.93). Bellevue's Reese Meacham was fourth in the 1600 (5:13.49) after finishing fourth in the 3200 (11:26.05). She also aided Kameron Koch, Joslyn Turinsky and Lyla Young to move on in the 4x800 (10:02.19). Perkins finished third as a team in the boys standings. Ontario took the team championship with 118.5 points while Clear Fork was runner-up with 85. Perkins scored 81 points while Clyde (46) was seventh, Bellevue (37) was eighth and Port Clinton (32) was 10th. Joel Smelcer was runner-up in the 1600 for the Pirates, crossing the line in 4:24.12. Earlier in the week, Smelcer won the 3200 (9:25.30). Clyde's Dekin Crockett won the 300 hurdles in 38.80 while finishing runner-up in the 200 (22.76). Crockett also teamed with Mitch Newsome, Dane Aldrich and Reese Rex to take down the 4x400 in 3:25. Vermilion's Brady Parker was second in the 100 (11.08) while Port Clinton got a second from Charlie Simpson in the 800 (1:55.55). Bellevue's Owen Hancock advanced in the 400, taking fourth in 52.46 while teammate Owen Panyard was fourth in the 1600 (4:46.85). Danbury girls finish 3rd GIBSONBURG — The Danbury girls team finished third at the Division V district meet at Gibsonburg High School. The Lakers finished with 59 points. Seneca East won the team championship with 77 points while Van Buren was runner-up with 60. The top six girls and top four boys finishers in each event advanced to the regional at Fostoria on May 28 and 30. Zoe Uhnick was fourth for Danbury in the 200 in a time of 27.37 seconds. St. Mary Central Catholic's Nicolette Hile won the 800 in 2:20.20. Danbury's Emma Redett was third in 2:26.64. Hile added a third in the 1600 in 5:24.20. Margaretta's Lillian Belak won the 300 hurdles (48.33) while taking second in the 100 hurdles (16.09). Danbury's Viktoriya Skeans was fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.95). Belak teamed with Amyra Ruffing, Mariska Farlow and Kenadie Saylor to take second in the 4x100 (52.74). The same quartet was runner-up in the 4x200 in 1:50.36. Danbury's team of Redett, Skeans, Jordan Ritz and Uhnick was third in the 4x400 in 4:21.28. On the boys side, SMCC's team was seventh with 45 points. Hopewell-Loudon won the team title with 86.5. For the Panthers, the quartet of Josh Will, Gio Torres-Cortes, Jackson Grimm and Ben Jones took fourth in the 4x400 in 3:45.99. Vazquez wins girls 400 NORTH ROBINSON — St. Paul freshman Deanna Vazquez won the girls 400 at the Division V district meet at Colonel Crawford High School. The top four boys in each event advanced to the regional at Fostoria on May 28 and 30 while the top four girls in each event advanced to the regional in Fostoria on the same dates. Vazquez finished in a time of 1:01.89. She was also second in the 200 (26.98). The Flyers' quartet won the 4x400 in 4:14.30. St. Paul's Amelia Stoll was third in the 200 (27.22) and fourth in the 100 (13.40). The Flyers' 4x200 relay quartet took third in 1:49.67.
