PREP ROUNDUP: Huron boys win district track title

FOSTORIA — The Huron boys track and field team won the Division IV district championship at Fostoria Memorial Stadium on Friday. The Tigers finished with 94 points while Margaretta was runner-up with 87. Senior Joe Schaeffer led Huron with wins in the 100 meters (10.95 seconds) and 200 (21.91). In the 100, Edison's Trevor Leimeister was third (11.08). In the 200, Leimeister finished second (22.30). Jason Nims added a win the 800 (personal-best 1:59.92) for Huron while Peter Cencer won the 300 (personal-best 39.41) for the Tigers. Caleb Staley, Ayden Miller, Cencer and Schaeffer won the 4x200 in 1:29.68, just ahead of Margaretta's Kale Bailey, Carter Luzader, Julian Washington and Zack Bouy, who were second in 1:30.12. Margaretta's Cole Zang won the 1600 in 4:22.98, just ahead of Huron's Sage Edgerly-Bork (4:23.55). Zang also won the 3200 earlier this week in 9:35.21. The Polar Bears' Bouy, Luzader, Mason Reinbolt and Bailey took down the 4x100 in 43.27. Bailey won the long jump with a top mark of 21 feet, 7 inches. Huron added a second-place finish in the 4x400 as Carter Brennan, Cencer, Staley and Schaeffer crossed in 3:24.41, just .01 behind Lakota. Western Reserve's Hayden Keith won the discus with a throw of 178-3. He was second in the shot put, with a personal-best throw of 60-3. Also for the Roughriders, Chase Hipp was second in the high jump (6-2). Huron's girls finished runner-up with 117 points. Eastwood won the team championship with 122 points. Rylie Towns topped the Tigers with a win in the 1600. She crossed the line in a personal-best time of 5:00.61 while teammate Andrea Lesnak was second in a personal-best 5:10.54. Makenna Conley took down the 100 hurdles for Huron in a personal-best 16.03. The Tigers' Avery Bork, Khloe Wagoner, Sasha Fry and Kate Ryan were second in the 4x100 (51.11). Later, Ava Manner, Olivia Kohlmann, Fry and Ava Trevino were second in the 4x200 (1:47.41). Olivia Kohlmann, Laney Schlessman, Fry and Allison Kohlmann were second in the 4x400 (4:08.55), a half-second behind Liberty Center. Edison's Claire Michaelis was second in the 800 in 2:21.70. Division II TIFFIN — Norwalk's Elliot Gahring won the 400 in 49 seconds at the Division II district meet at Frost-Kalnow Stadium. Sandusky's quartet of Keylan Howell, Elijah Seavers, Louis Johnson and Daviyon Jackson took third in the 4x200 in 1:30.14. Howell was fourth in the 300 hurdles, finishing in 40.66. On the girls side, Norwalk's Xavia Immel won the 800 in 2:15.18, more than seven seconds ahead of Ross' Julia Norris, who was second. The Truckers' quartet of Immel, Alyssa Gruhlke, Saige Konik and Allison Rothhaar was victorious in the 4x400 relay in 4:09.05. Olive Leavitt finished second in the 1600 for Norwalk, crossing the line in a time of 5:27.05. Sandusky's Taliyah Farris was fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.19) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (47.14). The Blue Streaks' McKenzi Johnson, Crysten Johnson, Emani Thames and Farris were fourth in the 4x400 (4:17.54). Division IV FINDLAY — The Willard quartet of Cora Clark, Mya Stephens, Jocelyn Maynard and LaMya Hicks finished second in the 4x100 in the Division IV district meet at Findlay. The group crossed the line in 51.13 seconds, less than a half-second behind the winning Spencerville team. Hicks won the long jump with a top leap of 18 feet, 2 inches. Paige Adams was second in the shot put (37-6) and discus (115-9). Clark was third in the high jump (5-1) for the Crimson Flashes. Division V GIBSONBURG — The Danbury girls lead after the first day of the Division V district meet at Gibsonburg High School. The Lakers had a successful Thursday, scoring 27 points, one ahead of Ottawa Hills. Danbury's Jordan Ritz won the high jump, with a top mark of 5-4. Also for the Lakers, Taytum Benyak was third in the shot put (36-1.50) and Kendall Woodworth was third in the pole vault (8-6). Margaretta's 4x800 quartet of Mariska Farlow, Lucy Hartman, Amyra Ruffing and Tenlee Hemmer took third in 10:27.24. The Polar Bears' Lillian Belak had the best qualifying time in the 100 hurdles (16.16) while Belak, Ruffing, Farlow and Kenadie Saylor qualified in the 4x200 (1:57.07). Belak also had the top time in the 300 hurdles (47.09). For St. Mary Central Catholic, Nicolette Hile had the best time in the 800 (2:30.31). Danbury's Zoe Uhnick advanced in the 200 (27.37) dash. On the boys side, SMCC is second after one day with 20 points. Hopewell-Loudon leads the way with 35. The Panthers' group of Gio Torres-Cortes, Eli Etchill, Jackson Grimm and Ben Jones was second in the 4x800 in 8:57.77. Etchill finished second in the 3200 (10:21.93). Division V NORTH ROBINSON — Monroeville senior Brycen Dunlap won the shot put at the Division V district at Colonel Crawford on Thursday. Dunlap won with a top throw of 48 feet, 1 inch. New London's Jayden Bracken was second in the pole vault (12-0) while Plymouth's Izaya Reynolds was third in the 200 in 23.10 seconds. Reynolds was third in the 400 (52.60) while New London's Carter Hicks took third in the 3200 (9:55.94). On the girls side, St. Paul's Deanna Vazquez won the 400 in 1:01.89. She was also second in the 200 (26.55) while South Central's Autumn Fry finished second in the 100 (13.00). Fry added a victory in the discus finals (126-3) while South Central's Lauren Ingram won the high jump (5-0). St. Paul's 4x100 (53.01), 4x200 (1:49.72) and 4x400 (4:19.39) each finished second. Monroeville's Payton Weilnau had a season-best in the long jump, finishing third (15-3.75). SOFTBALL Bryan 4, Clyde 0 SYLVANIA — Thea Staten struck out 18 to lead the Golden Bears to a Division IV district final win. Staten, who will pitch collegiately for North Carolina State, allowed only two hits, both by Teaghan Smith. Bryan (21-0) scored four runs in the bottom of the first, taking a 3-0 lead on Karli McDade's two-run double. Clyde finished the season with a 15-9 record. LP: Myers. 2B: (B) Arnold, McDade BASEBALL Danbury 11, Gibsonburg 2 GIBSONBURG — The Lakers broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the top of the sixth inning and added five runs in the seventh inning to pull away for win in a Division VII tournament opener. Tommy Dean threw a complete game for Danbury, striking out 10, walking only three and allowing zero earned runs. Logan Lucas and Khale Ferguson each singled and drove in two runs for the Lakers (12-11). Dean had a RBI single in the Lakers' big sixth inning. Taylor Monak and Logan Shepherd each scored two runs. Chuy Rodriguez look the loss for Gibsonburg (9-9) while striking out 11. Danbury will play top-ranked Tiffin Calvert in a district semifinal next Thursday at Lions Park in Castalia. St. Paul 3, Bellevue 2 NORWALK — St. Paul coach Aaron Fries picked up his 100th career win as the Division VII No. 3 Flyers won in five innings. St. Paul, which improved to 20-3-1, scored three runs in the first inning. Nate Griffin got the pitching win, striking out seven and walking only one. Izaac Snyder doubled and scored the Flyers' first run when Alex Marsh walked with the bases loaded. Brady Fritz's sacrifice fly scored River Couch to give the Flyers the lead and Landon Fries scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1. Bellevue's Reid Claus hit a home run in the first inning. St. Paul will play St. Mary Central Catholic in a Division VII district semifinal Thursday in Castalia. The Redmen (14-9) will play Shelby in a Division IV district semifinal Wednesday in Willard.
