PREP ROUNDUP: Eagles stun Flyers in 7th

NEW WASHINGTON — Monroeville rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat St. Paul 8-7 in a Division VII district semifinal Wednesday at Buckeye Central. The Eagles, who have advanced to the state championship softball game in each of the past two seasons, improved to 17-6 and advanced to Friday's district title game against Gibsonburg at Oak Harbor. Monroeville defeated the Flyers by a combined 20-2 score during the two regular season meetings. Alayna Tyler hit a one-out single to start the Monroeville rally. Payton Weilnau was intentionally walked, then Brooke Morman hit an RBI single to make it 6-4. Genna Bragg then took the second pitch she saw for a double to right-center that scored Weilnau to make it 6-5 with still just one out. St. Paul coach Aaron Kalizewski then brought in Taegen Mansfield-Bush in relief of Bella Guerra. McKenna Payton was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Mansfield-Bush was able to get Lilly Clark to pop out in foul ground to catcher Ella Kalizewski for the second out. Madi Reiber then threw a four-pitch walk, which brought up freshman Ava Wadsworth. On a 1-1 pitch, Wadsworth hit a two-run single with the bases loaded. She was going out to second base, but the Eagles had the 8-6 lead. Taegen Mansfield-Bush led off the bottom of the seventh for the Flyers (15-10) with a base hit. Kegney Stoll added a one-out infield single. With runners on the corners, a passed ball allowed pinch-runner Shealyn Deeter to score to make it 8-7 before Weilnau was able to get a strikeout to end the game and seal the comeback. I district SANDUSKY — Norwalk's Jeremiah McCreary won his first match at the Division I district tournament Wednesday at Court 1 before losing in the second round. McCreary first defeated Wapakoneta's Brayden Hooker 6-1, 6-2 before a 7-5, 6-2 loss to St. Francis' Jack Kayse. Sandusky's Blake Ott also went 1-1. He opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bowling Green's Isaac Naus before dropping a 6-0, 6-0 match to Southview's Landon Vens. In doubles action, Norwalk's Edward Ramos and Roman Snyder were defeated by Toledo St. John's Wasay Syed and Nyle Ahmed 6-3 6-0.
