PREP ROUNDUP: Perkins baseball knocks off St. Ed's

PERKINS TWP. — Quentin Binette roped a two-out run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Division IV No. 12 Perkins baseball team to a 2-1 win over Lakewood St. Edward on Saturday. Talon Walton walked and went to second base on a sacrifice bunt. After Kash Koch was hit by a pitch, a liner was caught for the second out of the inning. Braxden Martin was then walked before Binette's single to score Walton. Binette also singled earlier in the game for the Pirates (16-5-1). Zach Cummings picked up the win, going the final three innings for Perkins. Koch pitched the first three innings, allowing two hits. LP: Didion. 2B: (C) Miller 2, Eilrich, Schoenberger, Faber TENNIS Norwalk's McCreary runner-up in D1 FREMONT — Norwalk's Jeremiah McCreary lost in the Division I singles sectional championship match. Ashland's Oscar Haynes, the No. 1 seed, defeated McCreary, the No. 2 seed, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. The top four finishers in singles and doubles advanced to Wednesday's district tournament at Port Clinton. McCreary opened with wins over Sandusky's Ishan Chopra (6-0, 6-1) and Fremont Ross' Charlie Kramer (6-2, 6-0). Sandusky's Blake Ott also qualified for the district. He defeated Ross' Carson Lewis (6-0, 6-3) before losses to Haynes (6-1, 6-0) and Kramer (6-0, 6-7 (3), 6-3). In doubles action, Norwalk's Roman Snyder and Edward Ramos finished third. In the semifinals, Columbian's Brock Siesel and Dravyn Dicken topped the Norwalk duo 6-0, 6-3. In the third-place match, Snyder and Ramos knocked off Ross' Jackson Swinehart and Brandon Fry 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
