Perkins debuts little free libraries in 4 parks

PERKINS TWP. — Based on community demand, Perkins officials believe the Little Free Libraries recently popping up in area parks could make a big impact on improving literacy rates.Crews installed the free book exchanges, stored in decorative wooden containers, in four township-operated green spaces — Abernathy, Columbus, Fairview Lanes and Schiller parks — this past week.They encourage people to share reading materials with others. People can take a book to read and/or leave reading materials behind for others.Little Free Libraries across Erie County are sponsored by individuals, businesses or an organization. In Perkins Township, the government's recreation department took up this initiative."The idea for the little libraries for the township are to promote literacy and (provide) for some children who don't have access to books," township recreation coordinator Nick Blovsky said.
