Acton plans campaign rally in Sandusky area

SANDUSKY — Dr. Amy Acton, the Democratic Party's nominee for governor, and other top Democratic officials will campaign in Sandusky in a few days. The event will be hosted from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on May 21, but the location has not been announced yet. It is required that people planning to attend the event must send an email to eriedems@gmail.com, the contact email for the Erie County Democratic Party. The site of the event will be emailed out 24 hours before the event. That's the procedure that's been used for other recent events involving other Democratic candidates, such as Sherrod Brown's campaign to be elected again to the U.S. Senate, said Amy Grubbe, who chairs the Erie County Democratic Party. It's not a decision that was made by the local party. Acton, the state health commissioner in Ohio for much of the COVID-19 pandemic, hopes to be elected governor in November. She's opposed by Republican Vivek Ramaswamy and Libertarian Don Kissick. Two other statewide Democratic candidates also will be featured at the rally: • John Kulewicz, a Columbus attorney, is the Democratic candidate for attorney general. • Annette Blackwell is running for Ohio state auditor. Blackwell is the mayor of Maple Heights and also serves as the city's safety director. • In addition, local Democratic voters also will get the chance to meet local Democratic candidates, such as: — Easton Retzke, who is running for the House District 89 state representative seat — Mindy Kayl, a candidate for Erie County commissioner — Paul Meisel, who is running for Erie County auditor — Judge Myron Duhart, seeking a seat on the Sixth District Court of Appeals. The Erie County Democratic Party has also announced an upcoming event that will feature the state party's current leader. Former state Rep. Kathleen Clyde, chair of the Ohio Democratic Party, will be featured at an event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on June 2 at the Weber House, 414 Wayne St. in Sandusky.
