Golly Gee gets new owners

SANDUSKY — Golly Gee's new owners want to keep the summer tradition alive.Chevy and Jacqui Homan recently purchased the ice cream shop, on East Perkins Avenue across from Dollar General, from Dan and Michelle Kaman, who have owned Golly Gee for the past 25 years."I was looking for something that was good for me and my family but also the community," Chevy said. "So when I stumbled across Golly Gee, it was a good fit for everyone."Chevy graduated from Huron High School in 2005 and Jacqui from Western Reserve High School the same year. He's a financial advisor and she's a senior staff accountant for NOMS.They live in Huron with their son Corey, 5, and daughter Kaydee, 2, who are thrilled about the new family business."The kids, of course, love it and anyone who knows me knows that I have a sweet tooth when it comes to ice cream," Chevy said.Golly Gee has been around in one form or another since 1952. The Homans don't plan on changing the name and want to keep everything that people love about the place."People want to know the tradition is going to say the same," Chevy said.The deal went through last week and the Homans are receiving training from the previous owners to ensure a transition as smooth as the ice cream they serve.
