Wilhelm, Foghorn submit winning logo for Norwalk bicentennial celebration

Ethan Wilhelm, graphic designer at Foghorn Designs, has submitted the winning logo for the Norwalk 200 bicentennial logo contest.Wilhelm, 26, of Norwalk, said he worked on the design with Foghorn owner Trevor Rood."Trevor and I had been brainstorming about it," Wilhelm said. "Our goal was to have something that resembled the Victoria era."We went through a couple rough drafts," he said. "I did a hand drawing of the clocktower and found a Fisher body drawing and included that."Wilhelm earned a degree in visual communications technology from Bowling Green State University. He's a 2008 graduate of South Central High School."We really wanted to showcase our skills," Wilhelm said about why the company participated in the logo contest."We also have a lot of respect for Norwalk," he said, adding the goal was to make a grand design for the bicentennial.Chris Castle, bicentennial committee member, praised Wilhelm's design."I thought it was beautiful," he said. "It is a perfect representation of Norwalk's history."Castle said the winning logo will transfer very well to print."I think the subtlety of using the German font style is a subtle nod to the city's German heritage," he said.Castle said there were many logo submissions."I saw a stack at city hall, maybe more than 100," he said. "And, I know there were multiple drop-off points."The bicentennial's education and culture sub-committee, which is chaired by Rachel Hipp, picked the winner."This logo will be on everything Norwalk 200," Castle said.
