DeWine names interim attorney general

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine named the state's public safety department leader as the new Ohio attorney general. DeWine appointed Andy Wilson as the state's top law enforcement official on Monday following former attorney general Dave Yost's resignation last week. Wilson will serve the remainder of Yost's term, set to run through January 2027. "I know from experience how important the office of the Ohio attorney general is," said DeWine, who served as Ohio attorney general from 2011-19. "I have great confidence that Andy Wilson will do a great job as the attorney general for the state of Ohio. I base this on watching him as a former Clark County prosecuting attorney and working with him on a daily basis as the director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety." Wilson, who previously served in the Ohio National Guard, said he is "looking forward to serving as Ohio attorney general and to continuing the mission of keeping Ohioans safe." The election to determine who will succeed Wilson will be this November. Democrat John Kulewicz is running against Republican Keith Faber, who currently serves as the Ohio state auditor.
