Sandusky woman faces strangulation charge

NORWALK — A Sandusky woman was recently arrested for allegedly attacking and strangling another woman at a bar in Norwalk. On April 25, Breanna M. Maynard, 29, of the 500 block of Jackson St., was arrested by Norwalk police and booked into the Huron County Jail on one count of strangulation, a fifth-degree felony; one count of criminal trespass; and one count of failure to disclose personal information, each a fourth-degree misdemeanor. As of late Monday, Maynard no longer appears in the Huron County Jail and was released on a $10,000 bond. She has no upcoming court hearings scheduled at this time, according to court records. Background At about 1:45 a.m. on April 25, several Norwalk police officers were dispatched to a bar located on the sixth block of Benedict Ave. (U.S. 250) regarding an alleged physical altercation between three women, according to a Norwalk police report. When officers arrived at the bar, they spoke with the victim, who said the incident started when she confronted a man in the parking lot for shouting a racial slur. After returning to the bar, she said she was confronted by two women, and one of them allegedly put her arm around her neck and choked her by pulling her backward, the report states. Based on this information, two of the officers reviewed the security footage and identified Maynard as the one who allegedly put the victim in a chokehold and went back inside the bar to speak with her about the incident. One of the officers reportedly tapped Maynard on the shoulder to get her attention and advised her that she needed to speak with them outside, and that she allegedly refused to do so even after an employee had previously asked her to leave the bar before officers arrived, the report states. After Maynard allegedly refused to identify who she was to the officers, she was advised that she was under arrest for criminal trespass, failure to disclose personal information and strangulation.
