Perkins, Edison No. 1 baseball district seeds

Perkins and Edison will take No. 1 seeds into district baseball play, but the two area powers won't take the field until after Memorial Day. The Pirates (Division IV) and Chargers (Division V) both play in seven-team districts and took byes into the district semifinals. Perkins will start its tournament path on the same field as last year when it plays the winner of fourth-seeded Ontario and sixth-seeded Clyde on May 27 in Willard. The Pirates (12-4-1) were state runners-up in Division IV last year. Clyde plays at Ontario in a tournament opener May 20. Edison (13-3) opens tournament play May 28 at Fremont Ross against the Huron-Genoa winner. The fourth-seeded Tigers (10-8) host fifth-seeded Genoa (8-11) in the first round May 23. With wins, Perkins and Edison would play for district titles May 29 in Willard and May 30 in Fremont, respectively. In Division III, second-seeded Norwalk (13-6) will host the Lexington-Columbian winner May 21. A win would put the Truckers in district play in Tiffin on May 26 against the Wapakoneta-Mansfield Madison winner. Also in Div. III, seventh-seeded Sandusky (5-9) opens tournament play at home May 19 against Toledo Bowsher. If the Blue Streaks win, they would travel to Maumee (13-6) on May 21. Bellevue is the No. 2 seed in its district and will host seventh-seeded Vermilion (6-10) on May 20. A win would put the Redmen (9-6) in a district semifinal against the Shelby-Clear Fork winner in Willard on May 27. In Division VI, third-seeded Margaretta (15-5) hosts sixth-seeded Port Clinton (5-14) on May 23. The winner plays the Oak Harbor-Willard winner in a district semifinal in Fremont on May 28. Monroeville (11-7) hosts Mansfield Christian on May 23. A win would put the Eagles in a district semifinal May 27 in Shelby against the New London-Crestview winner. In Division VII, St. Paul (15-2) hosts Old Fort (4-15) and St. Mary Central Catholic (11-4) hosts Fremont St. Joseph (5-15) in tournament openers May 21. The winners of those games meet in a district semifinal May 28 at Lions Park in Castalia. Danbury travels to Gibsonburg on May 22 in a Div. VII tournament opener. The winner plays the Tiffin Calvert-Cardinal Stritch winner in a district semifinal May 28 in Castalia. The tournament draw took place Sunday and brackets were released Monday.
