Huron girls take down Euclid Relays

EUCLID — Rylie Towns continues to have a spectacular season for Huron. The junior set a school record in the 3,200 meters and also won the 1,600 as the Tigers won the Euclid Relays on Friday. For her efforts, Towns was named the MVP of the meet for the second year in a row. Huron won with 88 points while SPIRE Academy was second with 85 points. Mentor took third with 68 points. Towns won the 3,200 in 10:56.72. She finished ahead of teammate Andrea Lesnak, who was second in a time of 11:19.44. In the 1,600, Towns crossed the finish line in 5:09.83, ahead of teammate Claire Putnam's personal-best 5:22.53. She also teamed with Laney Schlessman, Liz Heidl and Leah Kohlmann to win the 4x800 in a time of 9:33.62. The Tigers' 4x400 of Sasha Fry, Allison Kohlmann, Olivia Kohlmann and Kate Ryan took second in 4:10.67, just behind Euclid's winning time of 4:10.29. Freshman Hadley Barkema set a personal best with a pole vault leap of 10 feet, 6 inches. That was good for second place. "We were by far the smallest school there with the likes of Mentor who has 3,000 kids," Huron coach Mike Lemponen said. On the boys side, the Tigers finished second with 79 points to Mentor's 135 points. Glenville took third with 75 points. Sage Edgerly-Bork led Huron with a second-place finish in the 1600 in a time of 4:35.64. Jason Nims was just behind Edgerly-Bork, taking third in 4:37.63. The Tigers' 4x800 relay team took second in 8:33.66. Joe Schaeffer was third in the 100 in 10.99 while Nims also took third in the 3200 in 10:01.43. Hayden Wilson was third in the 110 hurdles, finishing in 15.59. Margaretta boys 2nd at OH OAK HARBOR — Behind a strong finish in the field events, the Polar Bears took second at the Oak Harbor Invitational on Friday. Eastwood won the team title with 126.5 points while Margaretta scored 114 points. Port Clinton was sixth with 54 points. The Polar Bears won four of the five field events. Kale Bailey won the long jump (21 feet, 4 inches), Colt Watson took down the pole vault (14-6), Jake Bouy was victorious in the high jump (6-0) and Jace Berg powered his way to the discus win (168-8). Margaretta also had a pair of wins in relay races. The quartet of Zack Bouy, Carter Luzader, Mason Reinbolt and Bailey won the 4x100 in 43.60. Then, Bailey, Luzader, Zack Bouy and Julian Washington were victorious in the 4x200 in 1:30.03. Bailey also took second in the 200 in 23.17 while Port Clinton's Charlie Simpson was second in the 800 in 1:56.39. Margaretta's AJ Walters was third in the 3200 in 10:48.51 while Port Clinton's Brody Bollinger finished third in the 110 hurdles in 16.13. On the girls side, Eastwood took the team championship with 149 points. Port Clinton was fourth (76.5 points), Danbury (72 points) was fifth and Margaretta (46 points) was sixth. Morgan Wiechman led the Redskins by taking the win in the 1,600 in 5:20.51, ahead of Danbury's Emma Redett (5:41.70). The two flipped spots in the 800 with Redett winning in 2:27.41, ahead of Wiechman's time of 2:27.66. Weichman also won the 3,200 in 11:33.31. Teammate Calleigh Fought won the discus with a top mark of 113-11. Margaretta's Lillian Belak took home the victory in the 100 hurdles in 16.33 while taking second in the 300 hurdles in 48.38. Sandusky wins 4 events at Clay OREGON — Taliyah Farris won the 300 hurdles in a time of 47.53 seconds for the Blue Streaks at the Eagle Invitational at Oregon Clay on Friday. Farris just nudged Clay's Emily Schultz (47.57) for the win. In the 100 hurdles, Schultz won in a time of 15.61, ahead of Farris' 16.34. Maekhiya Rameau won the shot put with a top throw of 36-06. McKenzi Johnson was second in the high jump (5-00) for Sandusky. The 4x400 quartet of Farris, Crysten Johnson, McKenzi Johnson and Emani Thames took third in 4:18.70. On the boys side, Connor Moffit won the shot put for Sandusky with a top throw of 51-09.50. Donavon Gant won the discus with a toss of 146-10. Vermilion boys 3rd at home meet VERMILION — Brady Parker took down the 100 for the Sailors in 10.99 seconds as Vermilion took third at their home Vermilion Invitational on Friday. The Sailors finished with 96 points while Firelands won the event with 155.5 points. North Ridgeville was second with 97 points. Parker was second in the 200 in 22.24. Teammate David Plott took the win in the high jump (5-9) while Micah Smith was second in the long jump (19-9.5). Lucky Hovinetz was second in the 1,600 (4:46.51) for Vermilion while taking fourth in the 800 (2:09.01). On the girls side, the Sailors were fifth with 72 points. Firelands won the team title with 140 points. Elizabeth Okasinski won the shot put for Vermilion with a throw of 29-10.25. Brooke Whisenant took second in the 100 (12.71) and 400 (59.49). Ava Bunn was runner-up in the 1,600 (5:51.39) and 3,200 (13:21.63). St. Paul girls win at NL NEW LONDON — The Flyers scored 144.5 points Friday at the Bob Knoll Invitational at New London to take home the team title. South Central was runner-up with 126.5 points while Monroeville was fourth (60) points and St. Mary Central Catholic finished seventh (43 points). Deanna Vazquez won the 200 for St. Paul (27.42) while teammate Amelia Stoll was second (27.90). Vazquez also took home the victory in 400 (1:03.67) ahead of Frances Donnelly (1:08.26). Kate Paul won the 3,200 for the Flyers in a time of 13:33.35. St. Paul's 4x200 relay of Kira Sandor, Brooklyn Cassidy, Aubrie Bogard and Vazquez won in 1:51.36 while the 4x400 group of Donnelly, Bogard, Stoll and Vazquez took the victory in 4:25.30. The Flyers' quartet of Jenny Schwan, Donnelly, Kennedie Frazee and Ware picked up the victory in the 4x800 (11:06.57). SMCC's Nicolette Hile crossed first in the 800 (2:23.33) and 1,600 (5:28.23). Monroeville's Sophia Stieber won the long jump with a top leap of 15-2.50. On the boys side, Bucyrus won with 115.5 points. The highest finisher among area teams was SMCC's sixth-place finish with 60 points. Monroeville's Chase Horn was second in the 100 (12.01) while teammate Brycen Dunlap was runner-up in the shot put (49-11) and discus (125-5). St. Paul's Adam Dowdell was runner-up in the 800 (2:05.66) while the Flyers' Kade Houck, Dowdell, Nick Pocos and Joey Alt finished second in the 4x400 in 3:41.63. SMCC's Gio Torres-Cortes, Eli Etchill, Jackson Grimm and Ben Jones were runner-up in the 4x800 in 9:03.88.
