Police: Man forged license plate

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky man is facing felony charges after a Thursday morning traffic stop. Jaquan M. Ramsey, 33, of the 900 block of First St., is facing one fifth-degree felony count of forgery and one fifth-degree felony count of cocaine possession. He was additionally charged with driving under suspension and with expired plates. At about 1 a.m., an officer was following a maroon Ford Edge SUV and ran a random registration check, according to a Sandusky police report. The plate came back to a 2012 Ford four-door with an expiration of Nov. 27. The officer stopped the SUV and was able to see that the temporary tag had an expiration date of May 14, 2026. Ramsey was unable to explain why the Bureau of Motor Vehicles had a different expiration date than what showed on the temporary tag, the report states. Upon inspecting the temporary plate closer, the officer was able to determine it was counterfeit. The officer said the plate "appeared to be received and printed from email." It was determined that Ramsey would be charged with forgery for the counterfeit registration, the report states. Due to the forged registration, Ramsey being under suspension and having expired plates, the vehicle was towed. While officers performed a vehicle inventory, one officer found suspected cocaine. All of the suspected narcotics were collected to be sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for positive identification. Ramsey was taken to Erie County Jail. As of late Friday, he is incarcerated there under a $10,000 bond. He has a court date scheduled for 11 a.m. on May 18.
