Justin T. Rogers Jr.

AKRON — Justin T. Rogers Jr., 89, passed away April 10, 2019, in the Cleveland Clinic Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center in Akron. His family found comfort that Justin spent his last days in the hospice he so lovingly helped create.He was born Aug. 4, 1929, to Justin and Eloise Larkin Rogers; graduated from Princeton in 1951 and earned a law degree at University of Michigan in 1954. After the U.S. Army and practicing law in Columbus, he joined Ohio Edison (now First Energy) in 1958.Justin rose to President, CEO, and Chairman of Ohio Edison, steering the firm through a crucial phase of its history. He was a strong leader during his 36-year-career, yet his fellow employees also appreciated him for his kindnesses, support, humble manner and down-to-earth friendliness. He was a towering presence who showed a genuine compassion for othersHis family recalls tales of his youth — being raised on 44th Street, Hancock School, fishing off the islands, duck hunting in marshes, sailing in the bay, being a hospital orderly, high school class of 1947, and later enjoying CIC and RSTC. Justin made many lifelong friends in Sandusky.Justin is survived by his wife, Jane Nicholas Rogers; children, Sarah, Larkin, Justin III; and grandson, Angus C.B. Warren.The family prefers memorial contributions to Maritime Museum of Sandusky, 125 Meigs St., Sandusky, OH, 44870, in lieu of flowers.Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Billows Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, Fairlawn. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W. Exchange St., Akron. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.
