GOP voters settle state treasurer and Supreme Court races

SANDUSKY — On Tuesday night, Republican voters settled two primary races, one for state treasurer and one for the Ohio Supreme Court. The election returns for the two races came in too late to be published in Wednesday's edition of the Sandusky Register. In a closely contested race for state treasurer, Jay Edwards defeated Kristina D. Roegner. Edwards won 410,282 votes, or about 53%, according to unofficial totals posted at the Ohio Secretary of State's website. Edwards will be opposed in the general election by Democrat Seth Walsh, who did not have a primary opponent. On X.com, Edwards posted, "I'm so thankful for the support and trust of Ohio Republicans in this race. Let's come together and go win this in November!" In a four-person race for the Ohio Supreme Court nominee who will oppose sitting Ohio Supreme Justice Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat, Colleen O'Donnell claimed victory with 236,083 votes, edging out Andrew King, who had 218,242, and also defeating Jill Lanzinger and Ronald Lewis. Late Tuesday, after the results became clear, O'Donnell issued a statement. "This is not just a victory for my campaign team, but for all Ohioans who support law and order, public safety and fair, consistent court decisions," she said. "I want to acknowledge my opponents, who ran tough campaigns. Through our competition of ideas, I believe we strengthened one another, and I am now energized to challenge the last Democrat serving on the bench this November."
