Local shop debuts apparel celebrating America 250

VERMILION — New apparel celebrating America's upcoming 250th anniversary is available at Main Street Threads in Vermilion where owner Jacqui Adkins continues to grow a local storefront backed by a regional apparel brand. The downtown store, located at 666 Main St., features patriotic-themed clothing and accessories among a broader selection of locally designed products. The new anniversary-themed items are among the latest additions to a product selection that now includes hundreds of pieces. "With America's 250th anniversary approaching, we wanted to create apparel that felt patriotic, timeless and community-driven while celebrating the pride and small-town spirit that makes communities, like Vermilion, so special." Local designs, regional reach What sets the store apart is how much of the work happens locally. Rather than relying solely on outside vendors, many products are designed in-house with options for customers to customize items by size, style or color. The store offers sizing from newborn to 4XL across men's, women's and children's apparel. Main Street Threads is connected to Mistakes on the Lake, an apparel brand that has grown into a regional presence, with products now carried in more than 150 stores. The business also operates a fulfillment center, allowing design, production and shipping to support both in-store and online sales. In addition to its storefront, Main Street Threads and Mistakes on the Lake both maintain online stores. The Main Street location is also dog-friendly, and Adkins said customer service remains a priority, including helping shoppers find what they need even if that means directing them to another local business. The combination of a downtown storefront and a growing regional brand has allowed Adkins to expand while keeping its original design and customer-driven products at the center of the business. The new anniversary-themed apparel is available in-store at Main Street Threads. For Adkins, the goal is not simply to stock shelves but to offer locally made products. "I wanted it to be different, but I also want people to know that we make everything ourselves. We design everything ourselves," Adkins said.
