Police dept. partying for woman's 100th birthday

PERKINS TWP. — Perkins Township officials, who include police officers, are planning a birthday celebration for someone they're calling "a very special Perkins Township resident, Margaret Kelley, who is turning 100 years old." While her actual birthday is on Saturday, May 16, the party takes place one day prior, on Friday, May 15 — and the public is invited to a birthday party at Strickfaden Park, 318 Bell Ave, Sandusky. Here are the details: • On Friday, May 15, Perkins officers will transport her, via police cruiser, to Strickfaden Park. • At the park, she'll receive a proclamation from the township. • The township will provide light refreshments and encourage people to sign a birthday book. Kelley's wish is to receive more than 1,000 signatures. Bio blast The department also provided some background on Kelley. Affectionately known as "Granny," she was born in Ireland in 1926, met and married at the age of 18 and immigrated to the U.S. after World War II. She and her husband were farmers and worked many fields in our area, including land on Perkins Avenue Margaret raised three children and has always had a deep love for all things related to Ireland.
