Free Planetarium show offered every Sunday

SANDUSKY — Sidney Frohman Planetarium has been a unique community asset and resource to Sandusky for 52 years."Maya Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe" will be presented by the planetarium twice every Sunday at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.A planetarium is a domed theater that projects images of the sky and universe, creating educational and entertainment experiences."The planetarium is hopefully a place that encourages people to participate in science in a fun and enjoyable way," director, Lois Wolf said. The current show, which continues through this month, is designed to give visitors a glimpse at ancient Maya, weaving together astronomy and mythology.Additionally, a tour of the current sky and constellations will be presented under the remodeled dome."I hope as always, that people have a sense of wonder and awe about the sky after attending a show," Wolf said. All ages are welcomed to show."I can remember my first planetarium experience that created my fascination with space and science," Wolf said. "I went to The Hayden Planetarium in New York City and I was blown away and it started my curiosity with astronomy."Admission to public programs is free. The planetarium has 49 seats available per show, with a first come first served policy."Public outreach is very important for the planetarium," Wolf said. "The planetarium has always been free to the public and it's very important because families can come, and not worry about paying for entry or parking.
