Gary L. Holmes, Sr.

PORT CLINTON — Gary L. Holmes, Sr., 65, of Port Clinton, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.He was born on Sept. 3, 1953, in Keokee, Virginia, the son of Ulice Holmes and Geneva Garrett.On Sept. 23, 2000, he married Wanda Jenkins, and she survives.Gary worked as a Big Machine Operator at Standard Slag in Marblehead for 12 years. During that time, and up until his death, he owned and operated Holmes Auto Service in Marblehead, where he enjoyed working on cars. He was an avid car collector, and could always bring a smile to someone by telling jokes or being a prankster.Most importantly, he was dedicated to his family whom he loved very much.Survivors include his wife, Wanda; sons, Gary (Carrie) Holmes, Jr. of Marblehead and Thomas (Katrina) Holmes of Lakewood, Ohio; daughters, Rebecca Holmes (Josh Gough) of Marblehead and Heather Holmes (Bill Clark) of Port Clinton; stepson, Josh (Nicole) Wheeler of Lacarne, Ohio; grandchildren, Amber (John) Holmes-Warrell, Brendan Christiansen, Michael (Logan) Christiansen, Darion Holmes, Morgan Holmes, Andrew Christiansen, Devon Christiansen, Hailey Holmes, Rebekah Clark, Clay Wheeler; great-granddaughters, Lillia, Daisy and Adelaide; father, Ulice Holmes; brothers, Tommy Joe Holmes, Keith Holmes, Kenny Holmes, Jeff Wright; sisters, Theresa Arnette, Tina Wright, Kathy Holmes, Jane Holmes Murray; and mother-in-law, Anna Jenkins.He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Geneva Garrett; his mother that raised him, Emma Fleenor; grandson, Garrett Holmes; father-in-law, Ron Jenkins; and canine companion, Little Dude.Visitation will take place 1 p.m. until a memorial service at 6 p.m Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, Lakeside-Marblehead, with Pastor Brad Hall officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.Condolences may be expressed at www.neideckerleveckcrosser.comGary Holmes
