Port Clinton says cheers to Pub 221

PORT CLINTON — Jim Ginnever may be new to Port Clinton but he's got plenty of experience in the restaurant business.Ginnever has owned an operated Fremont's Pub 400 and recently expanded his bar business to downtown Port Clinton when he opened Pub 221.The bar's name comes from its address, 221 Madison St., across from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. A space that Ginnever saw the potential in creating a business closer to the lake."It was an opportunity to expand," Ginnever said. "This space became available, so we took over."When Ginnever decided to open another bar at the location, he completely renovated the space, which had sat empty for about two years, making it feel new and creating an inviting atmosphere.He said since the pub opened on July 18 the reception he's received from the community has been excellent. The bar already has regulars.The bar offers entertainment, pool, a wide variety of drinks and diverse menu by its chef Byron McMorris."Quite honestly, I originally intended to open a bar, but then I was able to bring Byron onboard," Ginnever said.McMorris was the owner and chef Let's eat at Byron's in Fremont where he perfected his barbecue recipes, but the business unfortunately closed.Luckily, people can still enjoy his food at Ginnever's restaurants in Port Clinton and Fremont. They serve barbecue ribs, chicken, smoked brisket and the traditional bar foods at affordable prices."Were the working person's type of bar," Ginnever said.
