Police: Man calls 911 50 times

PORT CLINTON — A Port Clinton man appeared Monday in the Ottawa County Common Pleas Court after he was accused of calling 911 50 times in one night.Seth O'Neal, 26, of the 300 block of Wilson Ave., pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of disrupting a public service and misdemeanor counts of inducing panic and attempted assault.His pretrial was scheduled for Nov. 26, his final pretrial for Jan. 9 and his jury trial for Jan. 15. He's held in the county jail on a $50,000 bond.The charges against him stem from multiple 911 calls made allegedly late Wednesday and early Thursday, which were tracked to O'Neal's home, according to a Port Clinton police report.Police first reported to O'Neal's home just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, but O'Neal denied making the call and claimed he didn't own a phone.Dispatchers allegedly received 49 more calls from O'Neal between midnight and 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Officers returned to his apartment at 12:15 a.m., but he purportedly wouldn't answer the door.O'Neal would usually hang up after calling, but on one call he claimed his landlord was his girlfriend and that she was dead, the report states. Police checked on his landlord to make sure she was safe. She was staying with relatives.She claimed after police left following the first call, O'Neal went to her apartment told her he had feelings for her and that the police were out to get him. He allegedly became upset and threw a can at her when she told him she didn't feel the same way.After consulting the prosecutor's office, it was decided O'Neal would be charged because the number of calls was preventing dispatchers from doing their jobs, according to the report.Officers forced the door open after O'Neal allegedly refused to let them inside and took him into custody.
