Sandusky's Armstrong and Esposito one win from state tennis tourney

Sandusky's doubles team of Alana Armstrong and Marissa Esposito won two matches on the first day of the district tennis tournament Wednesday to advance to the semifinal round, putting them one win from advancing to the state tourney.Armstrong and Esposito beat Lima Shawnee's Sanjana Rajasekaran and Katie Clark 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 in their first match at Bowling Green State University.In the second round, the Blue Streaks junior duo knocked out Anthony Wayne's Ashley Hartzell and Grace Skilliter, 6-4, 6-3.Armstrong and Esposito will meet Perrysburg's Emma Carter and Sydney Onest in the semifinals at 10 a.m. Saturday at Port Clinton High School. Norwalk's doubles team of Jordan Gran and Megan Berry won their first-round match 7-6 (2), 6-2 over Findlay's Katelynn Coleman and Taylor Stocker. They lost in the quarterfinals to Notre Dame's Julia Loeb and Gracie Bennett, 6-3, 7-5.Norwalk singles player Gabby Horowitz lost 6-1, 6-1 in the first round to St. Ursula's Libby Barrow.The Truckers' other doubles team, Sela Berry and Mara Berry, fell 6-0, 6-1 in the first round to Perrysburg's Carter and Onest.
