Report: Man ran from OVI stop

MILAN TWP. — Deputies reported finding drugs in a man's car after he allegedly fled from them on foot Sunday.Kenneth Ansel II, 24, of the 200 block Stower Lane in Norwalk, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, possessing a controlled substance, obstructing official business and drug paraphernalia possession. Ansel was also charged with several traffic violations.A deputy patrolling Milan Road (U.S. 250) at about 11:30 a.m. reported a Chevrolet S-10 drove over the road's fog line while turning onto Huron-Avery Road, according to a report with the Erie County Sheriff's Office. The deputy pulled the car over and spoke with the driver, identified as Ansel.When the deputy asked Ansel if he'd been drinking the night prior, he allegedly responded, "it's Saturday, of course," the report states. The deputy then had Ansel step out of the car to perform field sobriety tests.After the tests were over, Ansel started to walk away and he then allegedly ran, according to the report. Deputies chased Ansel and called for backup and a K-9.They eventually found Ansel in a field and arrested him, the report states.Ansel said he ran because he had an active warrant, according to the report. Deputies checked, but he didn't have a warrant.Inside his car, deputies found a meth pipe and a plastic baggie with a white crystal substance inside, the report states. Ansel allegedly admitted the substance was meth and that he smoked it an hour before driving.North Central EMS took Ansel to Firelands Regional Medical Center for treatment because he told deputies he couldn't breathe.
