Firelands names new president and CEO

SANDUSKY — Firelands Regional Medical Center has chosen a Wisconsin hospital executive as its new leader.The hospital announced Friday that it has named Jeremy Normington-Slay as its new president and CEO. Normington-Slay will begin his new post in October.The new Firelands leader comes to Sandusky after running several hospitals in Wisconsin as the regional president for the North Central Region of Ascension Healthcare. His region includes Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital, Weston; Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point; Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill, and Ministry Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley. Ascension is a Catholic health care organization that runs 153 hospitals in the Midwest.Firelands' hunt for a new president began when the previous president, Martin Tursky, resigned at the end of 2017 after serving for 5 ½ years. Tursky took a new job in April as the president of McLaren Central Michigan, a hospital in Mount Pleasant, Mich."I am excited about the opportunities that lay before me with Firelands Regional Health System," Normington-Slay said. "I look forward to working alongside senior leadership and the Firelands team to make some positive impacts to the health system."He said he'll move to the Sandusky area soon with his wife Abigail and his five children - Jonathan 14, Noah 13, Micah 11, Titus 9, and Boaz, 8.Tom Routh, chairman of the board of Firelands Regional Health System, described Normington-Slay as a good fit for Firelands."Jeremy has a skill set and background that will help meet the needs of the organization long-term," he said. "He has a performance history of success in leading healthcare organizations and we look forward to the knowledge he will bring to Firelands. We are eager for Jeremy to get started and continue moving us in the right direction."Normington-Slay's track record also includes serving as president of Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; CEO of Moundview Memorial Hospitals and Clinics in Friendship, Wisconsin, and vice president of Ancillary Services at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa. He's been a health care executive for 15 years. He has doctorate and master's degrees in physical therapy from Concordia University in Wisconsin, a bachelor's degree in sports medicine from the same school, and an MBA from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. He's been involved in numerous organizations in Wisconsin and is active in his church."It's important to me to be involved in the community I am serving," Normington-Slay said. "Not only is it the right thing to do, but it helps me get to know better those who live, work, and play in our region."During a 2017 summit on healthcare economics at his alma mater, Concordia, Normington-Slay described how Concordia had helped shape his worldview."One of our values at Mercy Medical is reverence, which means that every person is made in the image of God and therefore, we believe every individual is priceless.
