Nature events planned at Sheldon Marsh, Lakeside

HURON TWP. — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has scheduled two nature-oriented special events near Sandusky on Saturday. A morning birding event will be hosted at Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve while rare flowers can be observed at an afternoon event at Lakeside Daisy State Nature Preserve. The Sheldon Marsh Birds and Blooms event will feature a guided hike from 8-9:30 a.m. to look at migratory birds. Send an email to lauren.stewart@dnr.ohio.gov by Friday to register for the event. There will also be an open house at Sheldon Marsh from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with exhibits and information from state staff and local conservation groups. Expect to get help on how to improve birding skills. Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve is located at 2715 Cleveland Road W. (U.S. 6) just west of Rye Beach Road. Meanwhile, the Lakeside Daisy State Nature Preserve will have an open house from 2-5 p.m. and a guided hike from 5-6:30 p.m. State staffers will be on hand during the open house. To take part in the hike, email Lauren.Stewart@dnr.ohio.gov by Friday. The events will be a chance to get a good look at the Lakeside daisy, a bright yellow flower that is rare. The Lakeside Daisy State Nature Preserve is located at 308 Alexander Pike in Marblehead.
