Take part in Puzzlepalooza

PORT CLINTON — From reading programs and creative workshops to gardening events and book clubs, the Ida Rupp Public Library system is offering a variety of activities for children, teens and adults throughout April at its Port Clinton, Marblehead and Erie Islands locations. Among the featured events: Ida Rupp Public Library, 310 Madison St., Port Clinton • Opera on Wheels — 1 p.m. on Saturday; Stop by for a traveling production from the Toledo Opera, a critically acclaimed education program. "The Bear Who Couldn't Fish" is a 45-minute, high-energy, original opera written for grades K-6. It takes place in the Great Lakes region and is about a young bear named Mato. He learns valuable lessons from his fellow woodland friends: the Eagle, the Otter and the Snake. Together Mato and the students discover the importance of perseverance and the natural beauty of our environment. • Teen Dungeons & Dragons — 4:30-6:30 p.m. on May 4; Teens in grades 6-12 can join an ongoing tabletop role-playing adventure. No registration required. All materials provided. • Puzzlepalooza — 1-3 p.m. on May 28; Join the library for Puzzlepalooza, a jigsaw puzzle extravaganza at the library. Spend the afternoon piecing together a variety of puzzles in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Work on your own or team up with others. Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library, 710 W. Main St., Lakeside-Marblehead • Crafting with Magoo Kids: Cherry Blossom Tree — 11 a.m. to noon on May 9; Kids will love making this easy cherry blossom painting with Q-tips. It's simple, fun and the results are truly beautiful. • Crafting with Magoo: How to Make Bees — 1-2 p.m. on May 20; These do-it-yourself bees are a super quick and easy craft to make, but they have a big impact. They are just super adorable, and attendees will have fun making them. • Paws for Reading — 4:30-5:30 P.M. on May 28; Calling all kids: Come read with the library's therapy dog, Sophie. Therapy dogs can reduce anxiety and improve focus and attention span. Sophie will be a nonjudgmental listener as children practice their reading and communication skills with her. Bring your own book or choose one that we have available. Registration is required but doesn't start until May 14. Erie Islands Library, 281 Concord Ave., Put-In-Bay • Make a Colorful Potholder — 3-6 p.m. on May 7; Stop by anytime to make a colorful potholder for yourself or give to mom. Bring a friend and know that many different colors to choose from. • Words & Wine Book Club — 5-6 p.m. on May 20; Join and share a book you have read while enjoying a beverage of your own choosing. Even if you haven't had time to read, you are welcome to join the library to hear what others are suggesting. New adult members are always welcome.
