Trooper cited for crash

TOWNSEND TWP. — A state trooper was cited after allegedly causing a traffic crash on Sunday in Sandusky County. Just before 1:30 p.m., Trooper Yousif Sabah, 23, was traveling northeast on U.S. 6 in Townsend Township when he reportedly clocked a driver in the opposite direction traveling 70 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Sabah attempted a U-turn at Sandusky County Road 294 and reportedly drove directly into the path of a southwest-bound Chevrolet Blazer, according to a media release from the Fremont post of the state patrol. The two vehicles collided, and the Blazer went off-road to the right where it struck a utility pole and came to a final stop. The trooper's cruiser suffered disabling damage and stopped on the road. Video of the incident, released by the patrol, shows Sabah immediately springing into action to check on the occupants of the Blazer. The 53-year-old Fremont man who was operating the Blazer was not injured. In fact, no injuries were reported, however, the trooper and two occupants of the Blazer were later checked out at a local hospital, the release states. Sabah was cited for making an improper turn in the road. The alleged speeding driver was not located.
