First Presbyterian Church serves Sandusky

SANDUSKY — A historic church in downtown Sandusky doesn't hesitate to help city residents. First Presbyterian Church at 265 Jackson St. is a hotspot for numerous service projects throughout the year.Care and Share, a nonprofit whose building was purchased by the church in the 1960s, provides food, clothing and other necessities to low-income residents and is next to the church. Multiple Sandusky-area churches, including First Presbyterian, contribute to Care and Share in some way.First Presbyterian also serves breakfast to low-income residents 9-11 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays each month, joining other Sandusky churches to serve meals."It's just something that needs to be done," church member and volunteer Norma Wible said.The breakfasts take place in the upper level of the church, where volunteers provide table service. They serve seconds to anyone who wants them."We try to be as hospitable as possible because that's what Jesus would do," Wible said.Added volunteer Patricia Krewson: "We want to make sure volunteers serve people, like in the Bible."First Presbyterian also works with Sandusky Mission Outreach Center, which connects church members from Ohio and other states to volunteer opportunities in the city. The church also allows Harvest House Missionary Baptist Church to use its sanctuary for worship, Wible said.Though the church's congregants number as many as 20 people, First Presbyterian doesn't hesitate to help.
