Corso: Raids don't close business

PERKINS TWP. — Open for business. "Everything's operating, nothing's changed in our hours," John Corso said Tuesday, a day after federal agents raided his family's businesses on Milan Road in Sandusky and Bardshar Road in Castalia. "Our staff is here as usual and (customers will) get taken care of."Corso said he would be addressing questions raised by the raids in the days ahead, but he declined comment on speculation at some media outlets and on social media about it."We'll have a good reply and address a lot of these accusations that have broken around," he said.More than 100 federal agents — from the Homeland Security Department and the Border Patrol — descended on the Corsos' locations with search warrants Tuesday morning, heavily armed and with a helicopter overhead.Read: Corso's locations raidedSpokespeople for Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said 114 people suspected of being in the country unlawfully and using false documents to claim citizenship were arrested in the raids. Their names, specific charges and copies of the search warrants agents served were not released, for privacy concerns, the agencies said. The warrants were a part of an investigation that started in October, when the Border Patrol arrested a suspected document vendor, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Khaalid Walls.A Cleveland news station — WKYC TV 3 — is identifying that vendor as 44-year old Martha Buendia-Chavarria. Walls, however, did not confirm that when the Register contacted him Tuesday. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown told the Register one of the individuals arrested was an American citizen and was released after his office interceded.
