Bellevue's Ray, Edison's Cooper are All-Ohio first team

COLUMBUS — Five area baseball players earned All-Ohio honors, it was announced by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association.In Division II, Bellevue shortstop Bryce Ray was selected to the first team. The SBC Lake division Outstanding Performer, Ray struck out just three times in 76 at bats this season.In 22 games, Ray hit .487 with seven doubles, three triples, three home runs and 14 RBIs for the state-ranked Redmen (18-4). In the field, he had a .917 fielding percentage with 42 assists and 35 putouts.In Div. III, Edison junior pitcher Caden Cooper was voted to the first team. Cooper, who threw a complete-game one-hitter in a district championship win vs. Bucyrus Wynford on May 20, went 6-0 this season for the Chargers.Cooper finished with a 0.78 ERA with 91 strikeouts and nine walks in 54 innings. He allowed six earned runs on 21 hits.His teammate, senior Bryce Roberts, earned honorable mention honors. He batted .396 with six doubles, a triple, a home run and 10 RBIs. On the mound, Roberts went 7-3 with a 0.90 ERA. He struck out 87 batters to 16 walks in 62 2/3 innings.In Div. IV, St. Paul senior outfielder Kurt Maxwell was voted to the second team. His teammate, Luke Carper, was an honorable mention infielder.In 24 games, Maxwell batted .368 nine doubles, a triple and 30 RBIs. Carper hit .366 with eight doubles, a home run and 22 RBIs.
