Washington named MVP of North-South game

OLENTANGY — Margaretta senior Julian Washington finished his high school basketball career by being named Most Valuable Player in the OHSBCA North-South All-Star Game. Washington led all scorers with 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead the North to a 122-111 win Friday at Olentangy Liberty High School. Washington, who will play collegiately for the University of Dayton, was 12 for 17 from the field and helped the North overcome a 15-point deficit in the first half. The North scored 73 points in the second half. Washington was the Ohio MVP at last week's Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game. Lima Senior's Willie Foster, who will play for Northern Kentucky, added 23 points for the North. Reynoldsburg's Xavier McKinney (Ohio University) led the South with 20 points. The OHSBCA's Player of the Year, Cameron Elwer from Delphos St. John's, scored 14 points for the North. In the girls game, Bellevue's Kaitlyn Turinsky scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds to help the North win 98-73. Margaretta's Cassidy Lane finished with four points and seven rebounds. Norwayne's Ava Maibach, who played for the North, scored 23 points and was named game MVP. Turinsky received her Division IV OHSBCA Player of the Year award during the all-star festivities. Bellevue's Kory Santoro (Division IV) and Margaretta's Ray Neill (Division IV) were named coaches of the year in their respective divisions.
