PREP ROUNDUP: Belak, Lesch lead Margaretta girls to Fostoria invite title

FOSTORIA — Margaretta's girls dominated the Fostoria Athletic Booster Invitational on Saturday, scoring 124 points to win the 10-team event. The Polar Bears' Lillian Belak was named girls running MVP and Kenadee Lesch was named field events MVP. Belak won the 100-meter hurdles (16.33) and 300 hurdles (47.63), setting personal records in each event. She teamed with Ellyse Schaefer, Kenadie Saylor and Willow Kuns to win the 4x400 relay in 4:26.74. Belak, Aiyana Pasch, Schaefer and Saylor were second in the 4x100 (53.79). Margaretta's Lesch won the shot put with a top effort of 34-6. She took second in the discus (112-4). Saylor (long jump, 15-5), Mariska Farlow (800, 2:43.76) and Tenlee Hemmer (3200, 12:33.74) also turned in runner-up finishes for the Bears. Margaretta's 4x800 relay of Julia Packman, Amyra Ruffing, Tenlee Hemmer and Ayana Ramon-Quintero took second in 11:15.98. Hopewell-Loudon was second with 98 points and Old Fort was third with 75. Margaretta's boys finished second, finishing one point behind Seneca East (136-135). The Polar Bears' Cole Zang was named running MVP and Jace Berg tied for field events MVP. Zang set a school record in the 3200, winning with a time of 9:42.75. Zang, AJ Walters, Kyle Walton and Cohen White won the 4x800 relay in 8:37.61. Margaretta's 4x200 relay of Kale Bailey, Carter Luzader, Mason Reinbolt and Zack Bouy set a meet record in 1:31.39. Margaretta's 4x400 finished first in 44.92. Zack Bouy, Bailey, Luzader and Julian Washington competed in that event. Jake Bouy won the high jump with a PR of 6-5. Bailey won the long jump (21-3) and Berg won the discus (168-10). Berg placed second in the shot put with a season-best 50-8. Zang was second in the 1600 in 4:35.48 and Walters placed second in the 800 (2:07.78). Perkins' Schirg wins at Comet Relays AMHERST — Perkins' Gabriella Schirg won the girls shot put (40-8) and discus (119-11) at the Comet Relays. The Pirates' Austin Bilger was fourth (112-10) in the discus and Addison Mason was fifth (105-8) at a meet that included many Division I schools. Elizabeth Green (39-3.50) finished second in the shot put for Perkins. Perkins' Danny Buga was third in the boys discus with a throw of 164-9 and Joel Smelcer finished fourth in the boys 3200 in 9:24.02. Norwalk's Adyson Lepley won the girls pole vault (10-6). Mentor won the boys team title with 74 points and Avon took the girls team title with 100 points. Sandusky's Farris sweeps hurdles TIFFIN — Sandusky's Taliyah Farris won both girls hurdles events at the 100-meter hurdles at the Bill Krause Memorial Invitational, finishing in 16.45. Farris, a senior, won the 100-meter hurdles and finished first in the 300 hurdles in 47.43. Perkins' Paul Keys won the boys long jump (21.4.5) and Clyde's Braylee Laughlin won the girls pole vault (9-6). Clyde's Dekin Crockett placed first in the boys 300 hurdles in 40.51. Sandusky's Louis Johnson was second in the boys high jump with a 6-2. Perkins' Paul Keys was third (6-0). Sandusky's boys were second in the 4x200 relay in 1:33.02 and third in the 4x400 (3:33.93). The Blue Streaks' Maekhiya Rameau was second in the girls shot put (34-1). BASEBALL Monroeville 12, Bucyrus 2 MONROEVILLE — The Eagles set the tone with seven runs in the first inning in the five-inning non-league run-rule victory. Monroeville (9-5) added three more runs in the second inning to take a 10-0 lead. Jake Fries had three singles, a double, three runs scored and two runs batted in for the Eagles. Ethan Smiley registered three singles, Alex Dowell added two singles and two runs and Hudson Bauer singled, doubled and scored twice. Bellevue (5-8) jumped to the quick lead, but the Whippets answered with 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning. Ryleigh Knutti lined two singles for the Lady Red. HR: (S) Mullins, Bowman FLAG FOOTBALL Sandusky shuts out Strongsville AVON LAKE — Sandusky defeated Strongsville 26-0 on Sunday to improve to 7-1. Blue Streaks quarterback Brooklyn Long connected with Maekhiya Rameau for three touchdowns and Journey Newell added a long touchdown run. Vivian Johnson had three quarterback sacks to lead Sandusky's defense. Sandusky finishes the regular season Friday at Elyria with a playoff berth on the line. The Streaks play Cloverleaf (6 p.m.) and Medina (7 p.m.).
