Cocaine, pot found during traffic stop

SANDUSKY — Police arrested two people during a Tuesday traffic stop in which drugs were found.Jalen Herrin, 23, of the 2100 block of Aspen Run Road, was charged with felony cocaine trafficking, cocaine possession and tampering with evidence, along with misdemeanor obstructing official business and marijuana possession.Onnix Chaney, 21, of the 1100 block of Ging St., was charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest.Police noticed Chaney drive a Chevrolet sedan in the 2200 block of Cleveland Road, and an officer knew Chaney had a warrant for felony heroin trafficking, according to a Sandusky police report.Officers asked Chaney to exit the car and sit on the hood of a police cruiser, which he did, the report states.Police said they smelled marijuana coming from the car and asked Herrin to step out, according to the report. Officers suspected he was concealing drugs in his pants.Chaney then allegedly stood up and tried to pull away from an officer, the report states. He allegedly continued to struggle with police, and officers tackled him to the ground.During the struggle, Chaney allegedly grabbed an officers belt near his holstered handgun, according to the report.After he was seated in a police cruiser, police allegedly saw Herrin "fidgeting" with his legs, the report states. Officers then allegedly found a bag of suspected cocaine in Herrin's pant leg.Officers also found marijuana in a plastic bag inside the Chevrolet, according to the report.Both men were taken to the Erie County jail.
