BENTON-CARROLL-SALEM • Oak Harbor junior high and high school science olympiad teams recently competed against the top 40 Ohio school districts at a state tournament. The high school team earned awards in two events: Derek Lochotzki and Kale John led the team to a sixth-place finish in helicopter. Hannah Hartigan and Gray Warren also led the team to a sixth-place finish in forensics. Several students earned a top-20 honor: — Derek Lochotzki earned five. — Adam Kurtz and Kale John earned three. — Hannah Hartigan earned two. — Gray Warren, Ava Fiorilli and Emma Bradbury earned one. Overall, the high school team placed 24th. Senior competitors were co-presidents Derek Lochotzki and Hannah Hartigan; and teammates Madison Torres, Gray Warren, Chris Zoltani, Kale John and Emma Bradbury. Underclassmen competing were Aleigha Dusseau, Adam Kurtz, Olivia Cherry, Ava Fiorilli and Carter Hartman. On the junior high side, Garrison Strausbaugh and Nic Fiorilli placed seventh in metric mastery, while Zoe Wilson and Chelsea Meckfessel placed 10th in helicopter. Junior high top-20 finishers: — Garrison Strausbaugh and Zoe Wilson earned two. — Chelsea Meckfessel, Nic Fiorilli, Steven Sines, Philip Dehring, Camdin Randolph and Tommy Revenaugh earned one. Competing students include Zoe Wilson, Chelsea Meckfessel, Philip Dehring, Steven Sines, Garrison Strausbaugh, Nic Fiorilli, Tommy Revenaugh, Corbin Randolph and Camdin Randolph. The junior high team placed 33rd overall. SANDUSKY CITY SCHOOL'S GENTLEMEN'S CLUB • Sandusky Schools' Gentlemen's Club helped out with Sandusky's semiannual Citywide Cleanup spring 2026 event, often referred to as "Dump Day." EDISON TEEN LEADERSHIP CORPS • Edison's Teen Leadership Corps. helped Habitat for Humanity build homes in Sandusky. EDISON • Edison Middle School announced its March Citizens of the Month. The students were recognized for their respect, integrity, dependability and excellence. — Fourth grade: Olivia Knallay and Jacob Schnittker — Fifth grade: Jaz'mir Green and Hank Stoll — Sixth grade: Marissa McDonnell and Parker Smith — Seventh grade: Natalie Salmons and Cooper Schaeffer — Eighth grade: Evelyn Grady and Landon Price • Edison's Drama Club attended the Ohio Thespian Festival at Chillicothe High School for the 45th year in a row. BELLEVUE • Bellevue students visited Sandusky. The first-grade class learned about plants and how things grow at the Sandusky Greenhouse and stopped by the Merry-Go-Round Museum to learn the history of carousels before riding one. The day ended with lunch at Mylander Pavilion downtown. MONROEVILLE • Principal Khari Grant and high school Spanish students joined a class of kindergarten students for a lesson. NEW LONDON • The Ohio State University Extension Master Gardeners and the Huron Soil and Water Conservation District joined New London Schools' second-grade students for a hands-on lesson. The class learned about gardening, native plants, how to care for the environment and took home a tree to plant. NORWALK • Abby Acierto and Danielle Harps' students learned about volcanoes and 3D shapes. They participated in a hands-on activity making volcanoes out of dough and erupting them with vinegar and baking soda. • Norwalk Middle School students took their literature class outside. ST. PAUL • Norwalk Catholic School hosted a LeapFrog Day for its kindergarten students. The students experienced the daily routine of first-grade students to ease the transition into the next grade level. HURON SPORTS ACADEMY • Huron Sports Academy students prepared plants for their outdoor garden. MONROE PREPARATORY ACADEMY • Monroe Preparatory Academy Celebrated Arbor Day. The fifth-grade students, the student council and the city of Sandusky planted a tree. MARGARETTA • The VFW Post 2529 Sandusky celebrated Margaretta middle and high school students who participated in the Patriot's Pen and Voice of Democracy program. The students were recognized with Five Fourteen Pizza & Treats and received the cash awards earned through their work. SANDUSKY CENTRAL CATHOLIC SCHOOL • First-grade students took a field trip to Back to the Wild and had a picnic.
