No escape from Alcatraz | Sandusky Register 75 years ago, 1943: Two desperadoes were counted as dead and two more back in prison after the most sensational escape attempt in the history of Alcatraz. Dead are Floyd Hamilton and James Boarman, both shot while swimming away. Recaptured were Fred Hunter of Cleveland, O., and Harold Brest of Pennsylvania. The four men overpowered a guard and leaped from a prison window to escape.
