Police: Woman hit child in face with belt

SANDUSKY — Police arrested a Sandusky woman after she allegedly hit a young child in the face with a belt.Courtney Lewis, 23, of the 1300 block of Franklin St., was charged with domestic violence and child endangering, both first-degree misdemeanors.On March 20, police and Erie County children services workers responded to a Franklin Street home after a school notified authorities of a student with a bruise across the boy's face, according to a Sandusky police report.Police spoke with Lewis, who said she did never struck the child with a belt, the report states. She did admit she "whoops" the child in the buttocks with an open hand.Another family member, who received temporary custodial rights, took the child from the home.The next day, police and a children services worker interviewed the child at a school, according to the report.The child told police Lewis hit him in the face with a belt because he accidentally threw a toy at a sibling, the report states.
