Violent crime fugitive arrested in Sandusky

SANDUSKY — A man implicated in a Columbus shooting was arrested on Thursday in Sandusky. The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Dwayne Rheubottom, 38, at a home in the 800 block of W. Adams St. He was wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office for felonious assault. "On March 22, officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Oakland Park Ave. for a shooting," according to a release from the U.S. Marshals. "When officers arrived, they located a male who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and a female who had a gunshot wound to the leg," the release read. "An investigation was initiated, and it was determined that Dwayne Rheubottom was involved in the shooting incident, and a warrant was issued for his arrest." The Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team developed information that Rheubottom fled Columbus for Sandusky. Rheubottom was taken to Erie County Jail where he will be held pending his extradition to Franklin County. "This is the second day in a row the Lorain Division of our (Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force) arrested a violent fugitive from outside of northern Ohio trying to hide out in our communities," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said. "Great investigative work by the Columbus Police Department led to the identification of this suspect and an outstanding working relationship between the (Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team) and the (Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force) produced a safe arrest today." After Rheubottom's arrest, Sandusky police assisted Columbus police by executing a search warrant at the West Adams Street home where they reportedly recovered firearms and ammunition, according to Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver.
