The real deal: Hair Illusions offers all organic services

SANDUSKY — Despite the name, there is no confusion, deception or misconception with Hair Illusions.The reality, simply put, is this salon offers several top-notch services at reasonable prices, according to its owner Suzanne Porterfield.Porterfield, a stylist for 24 years, including the last seven at Hair Illusions, recently took over the Sandusky-based business from longtime owner Lisa Hasenmeier Gianvito."It was just a great opportunity for me, and I felt like I was ready at this point in my profession that I could do that," said Porterfield, a Huron resident who's married to her husband, Scott. They have three children. "It's been a dream of mine for years to be a salon owner."Porterfield oversees a small staff who provides a large number of services for both women and men. They consist of haircuts, hair coloring, highlighting, waxing, perms, updos, precision cutting and razor cutting. She also sells various retail and boutique items."The best part of my job is that I can make people feel good about themselves," Porterfield said. "I get to transform people, and they leave feeling better than when they came in. That makes them happy, and it makes me happy."Hair Illusions only uses organic products in hair."That is what we specialize in. Our products have the least amount of chemicals," she said. "A lot of people are allergic to ammonia-based coloring, and they experience itching, burning and weird smells. Some people think they can't color their hair because of that, but we deal with chemicals that it can work, and people have an option."Hair Illusions is at 2309 Cleveland Road (U.S. 6) behind Bayshore Beverage.
