NASA seeks community feedback

In early March, NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland announced it is seeking proposals to potentially lease 5 land parcels at its Neil Armstrong Test Facility in the Sandusky area This opportunity, called an enhanced use lease, invites space, aeronautics or other industries to submit proposals for the use of agency land. These leases are intended to steward taxpayer dollars by ensuring full use of government property and reducing maintenance costs while upholding environmental standards and creating regional economic opportunities. NASA Glenn is hosting a community meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the BGSU Firelands to explain the enhanced use lease program, describe how proposals will be evaluated and hear community feedback. "The Sandusky community has been welcoming and supportive of Armstrong Test Facility over the years, and we value our relationship with our neighbors," said Dr. Jimmy Kenyon, director of NASA Glenn. "We will consider the feedback we receive from the community as we evaluate our leasing plans." Though NASA is still early in the process of accepting proposals, which are due July 2, center officials will answer as many questions as they can at the meeting. Located on 6,400 acres in Erie County, it is home to some of the world's largest and most capable space simulation test facilities, where ground tests are conducted for the U.S. and international space and aeronautics communities.
