Sandusky man charged with assault

SANDUSKY — Police arrested a Sandusky man with a history of assaults Monday after he allegedly punched a woman in the face repeatedly.Gerald Robinson, 23, of the 1300 block of Carr St., was charged with assault and driving under suspension.Officers were called to the 1300 block of Hayes Ave. at about 9:10 p.m., according to a Sandusky police report.Police spoke with three witnesses at the scene who said Robinson assaulted a 24-year-old woman because she discovered Robinson was cheating on her, according to the report. The woman told Robinson to leave, and he then allegedly started shoving the woman and punching her in the face.Another person at the scene intervened by restraining Robinson, the report stated. Robinson then fled the area.The victim had "severe swelling" on her left eye and an abrasion on her lip, according to the report.Police later found Robinson and placed him in custody. He is being held in the Erie County jail without bond.Additionally, Robinson has a pending felonious assault case following a May 5, 2017, incident. Robinson allegedly entered a Putnam Street home and hit a resident there in the face with an empty liquor bottle and punched them in the face, according to a Sandusky police report.He was charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault, and was indicted on those charges in August.Robinson was also charged with assault in an incident aboard the Goodtime I in 2015.
