Norwalk joins nation in 250th celebration

NORWALK — Norwalk is seeking community support as it begins planning a fireworks celebration to mark America's 250th birthday this year. City officials recently announced the effort in a press release, describing the event as a "once-in-a-generation" celebration and inviting residents, businesses and organizations to contribute. The city is partnering with the Norwalk Area Visitors Bureau and VFW Post 2743 to organize the display, which is intended to bring together residents and visitors in recognition of the nation's semiquincentennial. "To ensure a show worthy of this historic occasion, the city of Norwalk and (the visitors bureau are) seeking donations from local businesses, organizations and community members," the release stated, adding that contributions of any amount will support the event. Mayor Dave Light said the goal is to create a celebration that reflects the community. "America's 250th birthday is a momentous occasion, and we want Norwalk to celebrate in a way that reflects the pride and patriotism of our community," Light said. "With the support of our residents and local partners, we can create an event that will be remembered for generations." The deadline to contribute is May 29, 2026. Checks should be made payable to VFW Post 2743 and can be mailed or delivered to the Norwalk Area Visitors Bureau, 12 Benedict Ave., Norwalk. Officials said every donation will help support the planned celebration.
