Police: Man strangled woman

PERKINS TWP. — A local man accused of strangling a woman during an argument was arrested Saturday afternoon.Dustin T. Villarreal, 37, of the 1100 block of W. Bogart Road, was charged with domestic violence.Perkins police were called to the residence just before 1 p.m. When officers arrived, they met Villarreal, who denied nothing was wrong but had dried blood on the left side of his face.Soon, a woman in the residence came to the front room and told police her young son had been sick but wasn't listening to her nor Villarreal, who yelled at the boy. In turn, the woman yelled at Villarreal, who "put his hand in front of her face to quiet her down," the police report stated. The woman then bit his finger while biting her lip, but she said nothing else happened.While talking with her, officers noticed the woman had marks on the lower and upper parts of her lips, but she refused medical attention.The woman's daughter said she witnessed the incident and told police she heard Villarreal and her mother yelling at each other. When the woman yelled her daughter's name, the girl came downstairs, where she heard her mother telling Villarreal "stop choking me," according to the report. The girl soon saw Villarreal and the woman on the ground in the front room with Villarreal pulling his hand off of her.Police again spoke to the woman and saw strangulation marks on her neck, which were photographed along with her lip injuries and Villarreal's finger. After arresting Villarreal, officers discovered he was convicted of a domestic violence charge on Dec. 30, 2010, according to the report. Because of this previous conviction, Villarreal's newest domestic violence charge was upgraded from a first-degree misdemeanor to a fifth-degree felony.He remains in jail without bond as of Sunday evening.
