PREP ROUNDUP: Margaretta, Huron get softball wins

WILLARD — The Margaretta softball team totaled 16 hits to defeat Willard 19-4 in Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division action Monday and run its winning streak to six straight games. The Polar Bears' Lucy Edwards registered a double, triple and home run. She drove in four runs and scored three. Isla Palomo went 4 for 4 and scored four runs. Elliana Young (two runs, two RBI), Tessa Lane (two runs, three RBI) and Ellaynah Schaefer (two runs, three RBI) each had two hits. Cassidy Lane homered and drove in two for the Bears (11-2, 5-0 SBC Bay). Kenadee Lesch got the pitching win, striking out nine in the five-inning game. Willard dropped to 5-7, 0-3. Bryson Wittmer singled to drive in Owen Price, who singled, with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning with what proved to be the winning run. Wittmer finished with a triple and two singles. He also scored a run. The Chargers improved to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the Bay. Edison hosts first-place Margaretta, which is 5-0 in the division, on Thursday. Edison, ranked No. 14 in Division V, took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Wittmer scored on an error and Tristian Wetherill singled to score Chaz Smith. The Redskins (3-8, 0-5) tied the game with two runs with two out the fourth. Beckett Mizener singled to scored Zeke Arumbula (single) with PC's first run. Derek Abernathy singled and reached on an error to tie the game. Weston Hoover got the pitching win, allowing one earned run in 3 2/3 innings. Smith threw the last two innings, striking out three.
