SANDUSKY — The Erie County Health Department will host an upcoming dementia cafe event and open house at Compass Point Adult Day Center on Thursday, April 30. This community event, running from 4:30-7 p.m., invites residents to explore the facility and participate in a unique social experience designed for those navigating cognitive challenges. Located at 795 Bardshar Road in Sandusky, the event aims to foster community connection and highlight the resources available to local families. What is a dementia cafe? A dementia cafe, also known as a memory cafe, is a welcoming, social gathering for people living with cognitive impairment or dementia and their care partners. These events provide a stigma-free environment in community spaces for socializing, sharing experiences and participating in fun, engaging activities. "We are thrilled to open our doors and welcome the community to experience what makes Compass Point so special," said Mackenzie McCoy, director of Compass Point. "Our dementia cafe is designed to be a safe, joyful space where individuals and their care partners can connect with others who truly understand their journey, all while enjoying a vibrant and supportive atmosphere."
