Police: Man spat at officer

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky man accused of spitting at a police officer after his arrest was jailed recently. Dadre C. Hamblin, 30, of the 200 block of Center St., is facing one count of harassment by an inmate, a fifth-degree felony. He is additionally charged with persistent disorderly conduct, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Just before 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, officers were called to the 200 block of Center St. for the report of a man threatening to stab people, according to a Sandusky police report. When they arrived, they spoke to a woman who said Hamblin had asked her for knives so he could confront construction workers who were working down the street. While officers spoke to the woman, Hamblin was allegedly yelling constantly. He calmed down momentarily after officers asked him to stop. He told them he didn't want to go to the hospital and denied threatening anyone. Hamblin then allegedly started yelling again and used a homophobic epithet several times, according to the report. Officers asked Hamblin if he would voluntarily go to the hospital for mental health treatment, and he said he wasn't going anywhere. He then allegedly squared up to an officer with a clenched fist and said, "If you touch me, we are going to get it." At that point, Hamblin was arrested on the disorderly charge. Hamblin continued to yell as he was taken to a police cruiser. At one point, Hamblin allegedly spat a "large amount of saliva" at an officer and it landed inside the officer's mouth, the report states. As of late Sunday, he remains locked up in the Erie County Jail under a $7,000 bond. His next court date is not listed.
