'Anything Can Happen' at this concert

NORWALK — The Firelands Symphony Orchestra Chorale, under the direction of Michael Shirtz, will present Anything Can Happen, a unique concert celebrating 100 years of Broadway magic. This performance will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 at the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center, 350 Shady Lane Drive, in Norwalk. Featuring the symphony chorale, chamber orchestra and students from the Norwalk High School choral and theater departments, the concert is hosted by the engaging William Barrett and "promises an afternoon filled with energy, nostalgia and unforgettable music," according to an event statement. From Golden Age classics to contemporary hits, Anything Can Happen showcases a dazzling array of selections that highlight the evolution of musical theater. Audiences will enjoy music from iconic productions such as "The Sound of Music," "Oklahoma!," "West Side Story," "Les Misérables," "Wicked" and "Hamilton." The program also features beloved favorites from "Mary Poppins," "Gypsy," "42nd Street" and "Into the Woods," among many others. "From the heartfelt beauty of 'I Dreamed a Dream' to the high-energy excitement of 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' and the powerful storytelling of 'My Shot,' each selection captures the spirit and diversity of Broadway," the statement read. Under the artistic vision of Shirtz, the concert celebrates the transformative power of musical theater in which "storytelling, music and movement combine to create deeply human and unforgettable experiences," the statement added. It continued: "Spanning more than a century of Broadway history, the program reflects the genre's ability to evolve while continuing to inspire audiences of all ages. With a rich blend of humor, heart and showstopping performances, this production invites audiences to rediscover the songs they love and experience the thrill of live performance." Tickets for this special event are $35 for general admission and $5 for students with a valid ID.
