Local Habitat for Humanity rejoices over its ReStore

PORT CLINTON — Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County recently celebrated the first anniversary of its ReStore, "marking a successful first year made possible by the generosity and support of the local community," according to an organizational statement. Open to the public, it is located at 1600 E. Perry St., Port Clinton. Since opening its doors, ReStore has become a valuable resource for affordable home improvement items while helping keep thousands of reusable goods out of local landfills. Through donated furniture, appliances, home decor and building materials, ReStore gives items a second life — all while generating critical funding to support habitat's mission of building and repairing homes for families in Ottawa County. "Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who has donated, shopped and volunteered over the past year," according to an organizational statement. "We truly could not have done this without the support of our community," said Valerie Winterfield, the local habitat's community engagement director. "Every donation and every purchase helps us make a lasting impact for local families." Want to help? With spring cleaning season underway, those at ReStore are encouraging residents and businesses to consider donating their gently used items rather than discarding them. Accepted donations include: • Furniture • Appliances • Home goods and decor • Cabinets, doors, trim and other building materials Garage sale leftovers and spring cleaning items Contractors and remodelers are also urged to donate usable materials — such as cabinets, doors and trim — instead of sending them to the landfill. For larger items, the ReStore offers free donation pickup services, making it easy and convenient to give back. Donations can also be dropped off during regular business hours. "Donating is simple, and it makes a huge difference," ReStore's manager Sherri Kaspar said. "We're always happy to answer questions, schedule pickups and help people find the best way to give their items a second life." In addition to donations, the ReStore is always looking for volunteers to join the team. Community members are invited to come have fun with the ReStore crew while helping sort donations, organize inventory and support a great cause.
