PERKINS TWP. — Perkins' Aubrey Ransom homered and Hannah Koelsch added two hits as the Pirates defeated Norwalk 5-4 in a Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division softball contest Friday. Ransom scored twice for the Pirates (6-5, 2-1 SBC Lake), as did Koelsch, who had two singles and a run batted in. Brea Thompson doubled and had two RBI for Perkins. Maycee Bohn picked up the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out five. Maddie Gamble had a double and home run for the Truckers (3-8, 1-1). Saige Viock added a single and two runs scored. Sophia Ames took the loss, giving up five runs (one earned) while registering seven strikeouts. Teaghan Smith registered three singles, four runs batted in and a run scored for the Fliers while Jayleigh Flynn tallied two singles, three runs scored and five RBI. In that one, Vermilion's Maddie Pinter had a double, two singles, five runs batted in and three runs scored while Emma Gebhardt singled, doubled and drove in four. In the second game, Emma Gebhardt had the only hit for Vermilion (1-9). She doubled, drove in a run and scored for the Sailors. Cayden Wikel singled to score Sam Lawrence, who walked with one out, to put the Panthers ahead for good. Grant Swain added an insurance run with a double that scored Wikel. Wikel finished with two hits, two runs scored and four RBI as the Panthers improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the SBC River. Blake Finneran had two hits, scored three runs and stole three bases to become SMCC's all-time career leader. He doubled and stole third in the first inning to break the record. Finneran has 76 career stolen bases. Adam Burch doubled, singled and drove in a pair of runs. Cullen Dillard got the pitching win, giving up one run in three innings. Reserve 6 GREENWICH — The Trojans won a critical Firelands Conference game over visiting Western Reserve in a game that was rescheduled from Tuesday because of rain. Western tied the game at 5-5 with two runs in the top of the fifth inning before South Central responded with two that proved to be the difference. Cole Frankhart had two hits and drove in two for South Central (3-5, 3-1 FC), while Parker Lane doubled with two RBI. Wes June, the typical No. 1 starter, came in for the final three innings of relief for the Trojans. He allowed an unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
